LET'S CHART A COURSE TOGETHER.
With more choices than ever, parents and scholars want something that stands out from traditional education. Young Scholars is blazing new trails with our unique program – blending traditional academics with tech-integrated instruction, and a global focus through world languages. We're doing it in a way that no other school in the Allegheny County area can compare.
High expectations and small class sizes give scholars the personal attention they need to have an exceptional educational experience. We limit the class size to 22 scholars per class. This improves outcomes and allows each child to be seen as a unique, whole person, with their own learning style.
We're so excited to see how far our scholars can go! At YSGA, we believe that building early core competencies is key to preparing them for success in high school and beyond. We're always striving to provide our students with the best education possible, starting with phonics-based reading and moving on to fun and engaging STEAM project-based learning. Our scholars learn critical thinking skills, creativity, and outstanding communication capacities, which will serve them well in all areas of life. So let's get started on this amazing journey together!

Great things happen when scholars are engaged. STEAM-focused, hands-on projects and activities create an uncontainable excitement for learning. Our scholars will be ready for the future – no matter what it looks like!
Life is full of targets, objectives, and expectations. Our scholars learn to set achievable goals and track their progress with guidance from teachers. We include group activities as well as individual projects to teach collaboration and independence.
Who your child is becoming and how safe they are while learning are as important to us as the academic skills we develop in them. Our school counselor teaches character education classes, internet safety, and anti-bullying workshops.
We prepare scholars to excel in the tech-driven world with integrated technology in our classrooms. Each scholar receives a Chromebook for use throughout their learning journey at YSGA. The Chromebook is theirs to keep when they graduate with us from 8th grade.

Our dual language programs foster bilingualism, biliteracy, enhanced awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and high levels of academic achievement through instruction in English, Spanish, and Turkish. Scholars need the support of their families to achieve any academic goal, however, families do not have to be multilingual for their children to succeed in our language program.
Being multilingual (and multicultural) better equips scholars with not only language skills, but also important social skills needed to work with others from varying cultures and backgrounds. Studies have shown there are many benefits of being bilingual, such as:
Bilingual children are able to focus more intently on the topics at hand and avoid distractions from academic pursuits. They can also demonstrate higher levels of cognitive flexibility – the ability to change responses based on environment and circumstances.
Knowing a second language makes resumes stand out and can boost applicants to the top of the interview list with potential employers. Also, bilingual individuals make more money and are offered more job opportunities.

Bilingual individuals have been found to possess advanced creativity. Speaking more than one language shapes the brain’s capability to think outside the box and devise innovative ways to solve problems.
Bilinguals are less likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer’s disease earlier in life than monolinguals. People who know a second language are also bound to experience lower-stress levels and better neurological health.

Each scholar’s home school district provides bus transportation to and from school within a 10-mile, door-to-door limit. Parking is also available for parents to drop-offs/pick-up their children.
Free breakfast, lunch, & snacks ensure our scholars are tanked up and ready to enjoy each day. No scholar faces a learning challenge without brain fuel.
Each grade level takes two field trips per year – one educational outing, and the second trip – more fun but still connected to classroom lesson content.
Our full-time school nurse provides medical assistance for scholars who become ill while at school. The nurse guides and supports wellness, and administers medication when a doctor's prescription is on file.

YSGA has resident teaching artists sharing their expertise in digital media, theater, 3-D art, dance, storytelling, and more. We are also partnering with Phipps Conservatory of Pittsburgh to create a Farm-to-Table greenhouse and growing system. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has partnered with us to provide meaningful, relevant activities for Black History Month.
An on-site social worker and a full-time school counselor make home visits, work with our families, and provide connections to various outside resources for our scholars. Our team is available to ensure scholars find solutions to any problems they may be facing.
School uniforms promote self-confidence, pride, and a feeling of belonging at school. They also remove the pressures and stress of meeting peers’ expectations. All scholars are expected to be in uniform except for their PE day.
Our Special Education teachers deliver services identified in an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). We also have intervention teachers to provide small group work for scholars who may be behind. We do not offer a life skills class, support for extreme behaviors or learning disorders, or one-to-one aides for scholars.
